Letter to the Editor
On behalf of Greenville County EMS, I am honored to submit this letter recognizing the outstanding work and critical contributions of our Emergency Medical Dispatchers over the past year through the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch® (IAED™) and the Priority Dispatch System™.
In 2024, our agency was privileged to be part of 84 confirmed cardiac arrest saves—each initiated and guided by lifesaving instructions delivered over the phone by our EMD-certified dispatchers. These outcomes reflect not only the skill and commitment of our team but also the effectiveness and reliability of the Priority Dispatch System and the protocols established by the IAED.

Our EMDs are the true first responders—calm under pressure, highly trained, and unwavering in their commitment to excellence. By consistently applying the IAED protocols with precision, they ensure our community receives immediate, evidence-based care from the very first moment of contact. These 84 saves are not just statistics; they represent lives saved, families kept whole, and hope restored during critical moments.
Utilizing the Dispatcher-Directed CPR (DD-CPR) training course offered through the IAED College of Emergency Dispatch has played a valuable role in helping our team refine and sustain their skills. This training has reinforced our EMDs’ ability to quickly identify cardiac arrest and deliver effective, confident CPR instructions. Ongoing use of this resource has allowed us to strengthen our QA/QI efforts and support continuous improvement in the early moments of the chain of survival.

We take great pride in the role our EMDs play in that chain. Their service is both extraordinary and deeply impactful, and we respectfully ask the IAED to consider recognizing the Greenville County EMS dispatch team for their continued excellence and dedication, made possible in part by the tools, training, and guidance provided through your system.
Thank you for your continued leadership, innovation, and support in empowering dispatch centers around the world. We look forward to building on our shared mission of saving lives and serving with distinction.
Sincerely,
Taylor Davis
